Furfuryl Alcohol
Furfuryl Alcohol – Importance and applications
Furfuryl alcohol is a versatile organic compound derived from furfural, produced from agricultural biomass
It plays a crucial role as an intermediate in the manufacture of resins, adhesives, and corrosion-resistant materials. Its renewable origin and favorable chemical properties support its use in sustainable chemical processes. As industries seek greener alternatives, furfuryl alcohol’s role in bio-based polymer and fuel development continues to grow. Precursor of various other important molecular scaffolds such as 2-methyltetrahydrofuran, it is also widely used as building block for pharmaceutical drugs.

Product Specification
Laboratory tests can be performed in BIAZZI’s R&D facilities using specific raw material to guarantee product specifications at industrial scale.
- Furfuryl Alcohol (incl. 5-methylfurfuryl alcohol): >95 wt%
- Valuables (tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, 2-methylfuran and furfural): ~5 wt%
If necessary, a simple distillation can be added to the process to obtain furfuryl alcohol with purity of >99.9%.
